CSUDH Student Housing
Carson, CA
The new CSUDH University Housing is a residence complex made up of 22 two-story apartment buildings, 1 four-story residence hall, and 3 common buildings. The residence complex has a total of 334 rooms that offer double, triple and quadruple occupancy options.
PPM furnished and installed 227 fan coil units (Williams, Daiken & Price), 13 exhaust fans, one Enervex dryer exhaust system and an independent building HHW system including two Raypak boilers, two Bell & Gossett HHW pumps and one Bell & Gossett expansion tank & air separator.
PPM plumbing furnished and installed and additional 99 water closets, 81 lavatories, 8 sinks, 9 drinking fountains, 6 gas fired water heaters and two electric water heaters.
Multi-trade fabrication for the project's caged fan coil units was coordinated in the PPM Fabrication Shop, with PPM crews working in conjunction with partner trades: PPM sheet metal built the cages and supply and air taps, PPM mechanical pipe installed the CHW/HHW piping and coil kits, and PPM plumbing installed the condensate pumps and piping. JCI mounted controllers and installed supply and return air sensors, PCI insulated the CHW/HHW piping, and the project electrician (ILB) prewired conduit for each unit and installed electrical outlets and conduit for units with condensate pumps.
Quality was verified at every step of fabrication. The project IOR performed material and equipment identification and witnessed hydronic pressure testing, while the mechanical engineer (tk1sc) was present to observe the units through the process. Each unit was tagged with the project-specified equipment label, every valve received a brass valve tag documented on the project valve schedule, and each stage of fabrication was dated and signed off. Finished caged units were started up on temporary power so the MEOR could hear each unit run, and every unit shipped with its sign-off sheet for the project record.
